TWENTY NINE Tyneside hauliers have now agreed £83 for 40 hours wage agreements with the Transport and General Workers Union, the union claimed this week. • But area organiser Geoff Eggleston told CM that drivers have accepted the economic reality that some operators cannot afford to pay an increase, and in these cases no action is being taken to press the claim.

He instanced the case of Cazaly Brothers (CM July 11) where the company only had one customer, but was keeping its drivers employed, and said: "We had to see the light on that occasion." No increase was granted at Cazaly, although drivers did strike last week.
