Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to use ist for carrying my own uilding materials to build iyself a house. Can this be axed as a private car? And I were to add a light drawer trailer, say 1-ton gross, muld extra road fund tax be ayable?

If I were to use the truck is a light tractor with an !rtic trailer, would a different !lass of driving licence be equired?

t Goods vehicles are usually taxed in accordance with ;chedule 4 of the Vehicles .Excise) Act 1971. However, iaragraph 3(d) of that >chedule relieves from being :barged duty as a goods rehicle any vehicle which, .hough constructed or adapted or the conveyance of goods )r burden, is not used for ;uch purposes for hire and reward or in connection with a trade or business.

Therefore, if you are using your vehicle only for private purposes and not for a trade or business you may tax it at the private car rate of £401 a year.

If the vehicle is taxed as a private car and not as a goods vehicle under Schedule 4 of the Act then no extra duty would be payable if a trailer were to be drawn.

It is not understood how you could convert the vehicle to a light tractor and use it with an artic trailer, nor why you should wish to do so.

However, if you do so you would need a heavy goods vehicle driving licence to drive it for the only articulated vehicles which are exempt from the provisions of the Heavy Goods Vehicle (Drivers' Licences) Regula tions 1969 are, according to Regulation 28(0, articulated vehicles the tractive unit of which does not exceed 15cwt. The unladen weight of your vehicle would be in the region of 1!J tons.
