In any competition for the most attractively situated transport office, John Baker's at Rownhams, Southampton, would stand a good chance of first prize. John is the local director of Greenwood's Transport Ltd and his office in Rownhams House is a beautiful, highceilinged room overlooking extensive lawns which slope away to an ornamental lake. On the other side of the fine old house is an entirely different picture—a vast complex of warehouses and bardstandings with more TIR trailers than trailing lobelia.
Just recently Greenwoods celebrated 25 years In food and -household goods distribution -by the companies it runs, and the guest list was like a -roll-call of national companies.
The constituent parts of Greenwoods -are varied, but successive take-overs do not seem to have discommoded the long-serving staff. At the celebratory luncheon, Greenwoods md Paddy Bennett handed out the latest batch of 25and 20-year awards and thE went to people with such variec jobs -as traffic clerk, warehouseman, driver, depot manager and the md of a subsidiary company.
