The Traffic Commissioner will decide whether to revoke the licence of a six-month-old East Anglian haulage company. Chris 'Tindall reports.
A FELIXSTOWE COMPANY set up only six months ago and now employing two staff with links to a firm that lost its licence is being called before the Eastern Traffic Commissioner to discover if its own licence will be withdrawn.
The involvement of two Syntex staff members, Mark Fielding and Hussein Ahmed, with 3PL Solutions has sparked concern among local operators.
Fielding and Ahmed were directors of 3PL Solutions around the time its licence was revoked in October 2006. This followed TC Geoffrey Simms' decision that the company had lost its repute and that Ahmed's conduct constituted "managerial and financial incompetence" (CM 26 October 2006).
Nicholas Lindsay, a director at Syntex, was also a director of 3PL, but resigned in 2004. long before 3PL lost its licence. He says Syntex will appear at a public inquiry because of its application to move operating centres in November.
"We've been asked to satisfy to the TC that certain ownerships don't exist within the company," he adds. "The issues raised by the TC we have categorically denied. We're confident that we can positively demonstrate that we're a legitimate business and that the TC will agree." Syntex was granted a licence in October 2006; at that time the TC warned that he would require to see its bank statements after six months in order to be satisfied -that Syntex Logistics is still of the appropriate financial standing to be the holder of a standard (restricted) operator's licence".
When CM contacted Fielding at Syntex he refused to answer any questions about 3PL or his and Ahmed's involvement. He denied any involvement with 3PL. However, Companies House lists Fielding as a director of 3PL at the time its licence was revoked.
