A LEEDS operator's hid for 16 additional vehicles and a change of operating centre,. strongly opposed by the Road llaulage Association, was adjourned by North Eastern Deputy Licensing. Authority George Smedley after the company changed its solicitors at the last minute.

Ltd, holds alicence authorising three vehicles and has an interim authority• to operate nine-more. • Seeking adjournment, Ronald Sedler, for the company, said he had only been given instructions to appear that morning. He had not received any proper instructions, nor did he have the file. He was nor in a position to challenge any witnesses.
For example, a vehicle examiner's report referred to the company's system of maintenance and it might be important to challenge the points that he made.
Opposing any adjournment. RHA solicitor Stephen Kirkbright said the variation application had been published last October. The case had already been adjourned at the request of the company's solicitors and the present hearing date had been known for many weeks.
But Smedley adjourned the hearing until January 23, and ordered that the interim licences continue to the end of January.
