AWIDE range of new synthetic rubbers is to be produced from a plant which has just been completed by the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd.. Birmingham. Built on a 12-acre site at a cost of £600,000, it will make possible for the first time in this country the experimental production of synthetic rubber on an appreciable scale.

The plant is highly mechanized, and it is aimed to produce 1,500 tons a year,. mainly of general-purpose rubber for tyres. It will also carry out largescale manufacturing and service trials of synthetic rubbers for treads, casings and other parts of the tyre.
