A CCORDING to official returns /—Lissued by the Irish Free State and Northern Ireland Governments, the total number of motor vehicles in use during the autumn of last year was 90,125. On August 101 1934, licences were current for 4,624 hackney vehicles, 8,254 good vehicles, and 658 road locomotives and tractors, whilst about 900 commercial vehicles were exempt in the Irish Free State. Of the total 658 road locomotives and tractors for which licences were current last August, 185 were road locomotives used for general haulage, 294 comprised ploughing engines and tractors for agricultural and other work, 31 were tractors used solely for agricultural purposes and 148 were tractors employed for other purposes.

In the class for exempt vehicles are included 115 ambulances, 462 Government-owned vehicles, 224 road-rollers, 40 fire appliances, 48 refuse collectors, 11 sweepers and a lifeboat tractor.
