The maker of the Schrader tyre valve has produced a rotating air connection or joint by which a motor vehicle can be equipped so that the pressure of any tyre can be checked and controlled from the driving seat. Each joint takes the place of the normal hub cap and enables air from a fixed point on the chassis to be conveyed to the tyre, even when the wheel is revolving.

It is essentially an experimental apparatus to enable tyre or vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators to obtain exact technical information -as to the behaviour of tyres at different pressures, and their effects On vehicles.

Grade 2 Wages in Northern Area.

Mr. F. Milton, Northern Regional Area secretary of the Road Haulage Association, recently intimated, at an inquiry held at Morpeth by the Licensing Authority for the Northern Traffic Area, that the Joint Conciliation Board for the district had agreed to recommend the adoption, as from January 1, of the Grade .2 scale of wages, to be applicable to all services in the area. The wages to be paid range from 49s. per week to 66s. per week.

Soviet Tractor Schedules Exceeded.

The Monthly Review of the Moscow Narodny Bank reports that the third anniversary of the Kharkov Tractor Works was celebrated recently and was marked by the production of the 80,000th tractor. When the Kharkov plant was first opened, output lagged behind the estimates. This difficulty is stated to have been overcome and production is now perfectly organized. A finished tractor leaves the main conveyer every six minutes and the estimated daily output of 144 tractors is now regularly exceeded.

London Suppliers of Several Makes.

We are advised that Messrs. Reginald Long and Partners, engineers and consultants, 47, Victoria Street, London, S.W.1, are undertaking the supply of Garner lorries, Yorkshire oilengined vehicles, Dorman-Ricardo oil engines and Eureka Radial six-wheeled units. Mr. Long, who, until recently, was on the board of Atkinson Lorries (1933), Ltd., is associated with the enterprise.

Irish Railways Acquire Two More Road Services, The Irish Free State Minister for Industry and Commerce issued orders last week authorizing the Great Northern Railway Co. (Ireland) to take over the road-haulage services operated by the two Drogheda firms, Messrs. P. McCloskey and Sons and Messrs. T. Cooney. The railway took over on January 9 all the services operated by the two firms. Later in the week, the services linking Mullingar and Longford and other towns served by the Great Southern Railways were transferred by the G.N.R. to the G.S.R.
