American Company Buys British Steam Wagon.

Following a series of successful demonstrations in the United States of a Sentinel 54 steam wagon, an S6T sixwheeler of this make has recently been shipped to the Pocahontas Coal Co., Inc., Mass., for coal haulage in a district abounding in steep gradients. This six-wheeler, which in the winter months will, at times, operate under extremely cold conditions, is equipped with Bromilow and Edwards hydraulic tipping gear and Westinghouse air brakes. Mechanical stoking and an automatic feed-water control are features of the vehicle, which has left-hand steering.

In America the annual tax on this vehicle is £50, and the low-volatile coal which will be used will make for economical operation. The Sentinel demonstration wagon is still in the United States, where it is creating considerable interest.

The 1936 Empire Exhibition in Johannesburg.

An Empire Exhibition, including a comprehensive industrial section, is to be held in Johannesburg from October, 1936, to January, 1937, but, at the moment, it is not known whether this will, include a section for motor vehicles, the main difficulty being that an excellent motor show is held each year about April, and unless this show be merged into the Empire Exhibition, any further display of vehicles would appear to be redundant.
