Could extending the public-private partnership model — where government, businesses and other organisations work together to come up with the money for a specific road project — offer a solution to the problem?
The Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road in
Kent is costing a total of £35.5m to build, but the funding comes from a mix of partners.
Of this, the DfT is providing £23.4m, the Homes and Community Agency (HCA) 28rn and developers £4.9m, as part of a scheme that also involves the construction of new housing.
