Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Professional Competence this October following changes demanded by European Union legislation. The last sitting for the current multiple-choice'based exam will be held in June.

For the first time, in October's CPC exams, questions will be set on a number of case studies which will include balance sheets and accounting information. There will be no chance to see these case studies beforehand.

Multiple-choice questions will also feature in the exams, which have retained their separate identity for national and international haulage. At one point it was expected that, in common with some EIJ states (notably the Republic of Ireland), the two would be combined. National hauliers wanting to upgrade to international work would then have had to cover some of the same ground.

Commenting on the new CPC exam, Ian Hetherington, chief executive of the Road Haulage Distribution and Training Council, says: "The introduction of a case study will broaden the scope of the exam, "It will demonstrate an understanding far beyond the usual requirements of a multiple-choice question," he adds. "It will certainly be harder for people to attain it."
