Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Livingston-based company MV Commercial impresses with its simple, powerful, used truck website.

Words: James Clark

Company: MV Commercial Address: www.mycommercial.com It's impossible to mistake the three main services available via MV Commercial's website: 'Buy a truck', 'Hire a truck' or 'Sell your truck' proclaims the homepage in giant letters.

Should you be looking to do the first of these, on the right of the homepage, you'll spot a scrollable list of all the categories of stock up for sale from 'tractor units' to 'recovery'. Not only does this enable you to click directly through to the type of vehicle you are looking for, it tells you before you do so how many of them are in stock. At the time of writing, we could see that there were no tippers or trailers available without having to check through the listings.

Non-vehicle-related links (to the company profile, for example) can be found tucked neatly away along the top of the homepage.

If you ever get lost while navigating the site, click on the MV logo in the top left-hand corner to return straight home.

Product search

There are multiple ways to reach the product search section of the site: click the 'Buy a truck' link, choose a category from the drop-down list, or select the Used Trucks' tab from the top of the homepage.

Within the search section, you can browse stock by category or enter a keyword of your choice in the 'General Search' box. This is a cunning way to search the stock by manufacturer, For each vehicle that matches your criteria, the website displays the familiar thumbnail image and brief details such as make and model. As is usually the case, click on the thumbnail or the 'view vehicle information' link to see a larger image and more comprehensive information.

This varies from vehicle to vehicle, but for most it includes date of registration, mileage, engine capacity, full spec and unusually internal dimensions.

We like

Down loadable PDF for every vehicle Strong photography

4/ Impossible to get lost on site

We're not sure

x Information varies from vehicle to vehicle x No tippers or trailers at the time of writing X Not much to complain about!

Prices are on application, but you can use the online enquiry form to express your interest. In last month's Webwatch ('Looks can be deceiving', CM 20 November), we remarked on the great vehicle photos on the CRS Trucks website; we're happy to report that the snaps on the MV Commercials site rival them. Up to eight good photos are provided for each vehicle, all taken from different angles. Another commendable feature of the site is the ability to download a PDF document on any vehicle.

By clicking the 'Hire a truck' link you can find comprehensive information on hiring light CVs and HGVs from MV.

If you have a vehicle you wish to sell, click on you guessed it 'Sell your truck', complete the online form, and wait for MV to get back to you with a quote.

For contact details, click on the small 'locations' link at the top of any page for the addresses of and Google maps to MV's depots in Livingston, Leighton Buzzard and Bolton.

Conclusion

Easy to use, full of information this is how used-truck websites should be done.
