Can't tell your column lift from your cantilever? Let Commercial Motor enlighten you...

Column lifts These are mounted to the body of the vehicle and not the chassis. The platform is raised and lowered using either a chain-and-sprocket system or hydraulic cylinders, which are installed in steel or aluminium column guides that attach to the rear of the body. The platform is generally opened and closed manually, often with torsion assistance. It can be raised and lowered while in its closed, vertical position, giving clear access during loading operations.
