Lorry drivers are second only to cabbies when it comes to displaying road rage, but are better at spotting potential hazards on the road.
Researchers from the University of Teesside questioned five groups of drivers, including police drivers, commuters and occasional drivers, to examine how they coped with the stresses of city driving.
Taxi drivers were found to be most aggressive to other road users and most likely to take risks, but lorry drivers came a close second on both counts.
More encouraging, however, were findings which suggested that lorry drivers' risk assessment skills are good.
Police drivers scored lowest on aggressive driving and highest on hazard awareness.
