Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A symposium for public transport policy makers is to be held by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne from March 23 to 25 next year. One of the aims will be to bring together elected representatives and professional transport men with a dialogue on important matters which will require the exercise of their judgment now and in the future. Two papers will present the arguments for and against subsidies for public transport and a further paper will describe the rapid transit bus system designed for Runcorn New Town which is being assisted financially by the Government.

The remaining two papers will deal with advanced technological systems, one being the Ford experiment at Mansfield, Ohio, which is, so far, the only example of the dial-a-bus principle in actual operation. The final paper will be on the Cabtrack small vehicle urban transport system.

Details are obtainable from the University's Division of Highway and Traffic Engineering, Claremont Tower. Claremont Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne.
