T"West Midland Traffic Commissioners, sitting at Birmingham last week, welcomed the news that there was a desire-in the area to get away from the traditional July-August holiday fortnight. Mr. W. P. James. chairman, said that the habit made intolerable demands on all forms of transport, and any move to spread the load would be appreciated.

He granted express-licence renewals to Greatrex Motor Coaches, Ltd., Stafford, for services from Stafford to Lowestoft. Because July had proved the most popular, they sought to alter the vehicle allowance by switching an extra, vehicle to Bournemouth and Lowestoft on the first Saturday of July.

Mr. James observed that there was a danger in stretching express services too far. The applicants would be better off without the August Saturday trips to Weston, he added.

In granting the licences. he deleted these dates but pointed out that the company could apply for variation if there proved to be an unsatisfied demand in the future.
