Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IT is not thought that the Government

would suggest the transfer of traffic from road to rail to relieve the congestion problem. Mr. Ernest Marples, Minister of Transport, is working on a bold plan for the relief of congestion in the capital, for which he is the traffic authority, arid this, if successful, may be a model for other large cities.

Detailed proposals may be submitted to. the Cabinet early in the New Year, and a short Bill providing for immediate powers is likely to be published before Easter.

PUBLIC TRAVELLED CHEAPLY

T"public had been travelling too cheaply for many yeai-s between Tetford and Skegness, said Mr. C. R. Hodgson, chairman of the East Midland Traffic Commissioners, on Tuesday, when they allowed Mr. J. E. Lancaster, Telford, to raise his fares.

THE Chancellor of the Exchequer told

Mr. J. W. Peyton (Cons.. Yeovil) on Tuesday that about 0.4 per cent. of the national income will be devoted to new roads and major improvements during the current financial year.

HIGH OCTOBER OUTPUT DRODUCTION of commercial vehicles in October totalled 33,430, which was lower than the preceding month's record figure but still above the average level for the year so far.
