Brief Details of a Six-wheeled Motor Coach and a Regular-service Bus.

AMONGST recent passenger vehicles which have been completed in the works of Karrier Motors, Ltd., Karrier Works, Huddersfield, two are shown in illustrations on the next page, one in particular being of interest, as it consists of an all-weather motor coach in which a six-wheeled chassis is pea ;. this particular machine has been supplied as a repeat order to Messrs. Roberts Bros., of Pontardawe.

Its basis is the company's WL6-type chassis, which has a wheelbase of 17 ft. 6 ins, and incorporates in its design a 60-80 h.p. six-cylindered engine, a fourspeed, six-bearing gearbox and an inverted worm-driven rear axle, as well as foot-operated power brakes taking effect on all four drivingwheels. A feature of refinement is the useof radiator shutters, the opening • and closing Of which can be controlled from the driver's seat.

As we have indicated, the bodywork is of the all-weather type, and it includes in its design a Beatonson head with a cover which rolls back toa fixed domed section at the rear. There are two doors on the near side for the use of passengers and one on the off side for the driver's use. Special draught-proof seats are employed on this vehicle, and these are upholstered in antique leather. The subject of

lighting has received special attention, and festoon lamps are employed on the side pillars.

Some idea of the interior appointments can be gained from the fact that nickel-plated ash-trays, match-strikers and rug rails are incorporated, and a very tasteful touch is the instrument board in polished ebony, inlaid with mother of pearl.

The other vehicle which we illustrate is a Karrier regular-service bus, supplied through it. Baraber and Co., Ltd., Birkdale, Southport, against the sixth repeat order of an old-established Barnsley bus operator. In this case the chassis maker's CL4 model is employed. This model has a particularly low frame height, the side members being downswept at a point behind the dashboard to a distance of 1 ft. 9t ins, from ground level. The wheelbase of this chassis is 15 ft. 6 ins.

Generally speaking, the body is of standard design, which is to be expected in a vehicle built for service work ; it is arranged to seat 26 people. There are three drop windows on each side, whilst a four-panel raked windscreen with side wings is fitted. This vehicle is equipped with 36-in. by 6-in, pneumatic tyres, and a neat feature is the manner in which the spare wheel is housed in a recess formed in the off-side body panel.
