The group runs about 40 vehicles, ranging in size from vans to 44-tonne artics. Although DAF is the marque of choice, the latest edition to the leet is a Volvo FH420 with I-Shift.
“We have always had a good business relationship with our DAF dealer [Wessex DAF] and we’re used to dealing with the same professional sales and aftersales staff,” says Mark. “However, there was a change in management and the service slipped. They came to see me after yet another management change and their attitude seems to have improved. However, I wasn’t letting them off that easy. Rather than buy two tractor units from the dealer, I decided to buy one DAF and one Volvo, and put them back to back. Today, the Volvo has the edge.” Most of the maintenance is carried out in-house to avoid turning dead miles travelling to the dealer.
