LEICESTER-BASED Widdowson Group has taken delivery of the irst of 75 new Montracon curtainsider trailers.

The trailers, which have been supplied through Montracon’s sister operation, Euroleet Rental, are a mix of replacements and additions, the latter to cover increasing business, and are all inished in Widdowson’s new livery. Harry Hawksworth, technical director of the Widdowson Group, says: “It’s important we maintain a modern leet. The 75 trailers will be provided by Euroleet, they will be itted out in the new Widdowson livery and have lush doors with recessed locking handles to secure them.

“The addition of these modern curtainsiders will increase our total number of trailers to nearly 200.” Widdowson is testing three 4x2 rigid vehicles: a Scania P230, a Renault Premium 270 and an Iveco Stralis 310 with a view to acquiring 20 trucks once it decides which will be the most appropriate.

The three trucks will be tested over a sixmonth period and evaluated on purchase and maintenance cost, fuel consumption, driver acceptability and vehicle warranty.

Hawksworth adds: “We are looking to replace 20 of the remaining vehicles once the test period is inished.”
