THE GMB union warns that there will be no let-up in plans to ballot more than 4,000 DHL workers, including drivers, on strike action, despite continuing talks with the company (CM II August).

Mick Rix,GMB national executive officer, says: -DHL has offered GMB members further talks about a restructured pay and conditions package.

"I have emphasised to DHL that the issue of chronic low pay must be addressed and cannot be smoothed over.We have agreed to a further meeting in September. "GMB is happy to keep talking but we will also continue our preparations for a full official ballot for strike action in the run-up to Christmas, following last week's 89% yes vote in the consultative ballot."

A DHL spokesman says the firm does not expect strike action.

• More than 250 drivers at Asda supermarket are planning further strike action over pay following four days of stoppages last month at the company 's ambient food distribution centre in Washington, Tyne & Wear.
