3 M's Women in Transport survey (4-10 August), which revealed how Few women are employed in the transport industry, has prompted a response From adventure travel company, Dragoman, based in Sussex. The company specialises in expeditions to Asia, Africa, South and Central America in passenger carrying vehicles based on Mercedes 1617s.

Following the format of CM's survey Dragoman's profile is as follows:

Fleet size 1 5 ( two drivers per vehicle)

Number of employees 42

Women employees 52% Women managers 7% (three managers—al women) Women admin staff 12% ( five admin staff—all

women)

Women drivers 33% (33 drivers-14 women) Women fitters/mechanics none

Women warehouse staff N/A The company's three directors are male. "Our on-road staff are not just drivers," says Dragoman, "Besides having to deal with some very awkward situations which can only be resolved with tact and diplomacy, they are responsible For the well-being and safety of a group of up to 23 passengers. They also have to maintain and repair the vehicle wherever necessary, whether it be in the Sahara Desert, the Amazon Jungle or the Himalayas. And what could 1 be more perfect for some of you lot than a "busman's holiday" with added sand. Contact Dragoman at (0728) 861133. ...
