applications

• Some 20 objections by coach, bus and municipal operators were made to a scheme proposed by Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd when the company applied for pick-up points to the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners in Leeds last week.

Among the objectors were the West Riding Automobile' Co Ltd, South Yorkshire Motors Ltd, the Yorkshire Traction Company Ltd, Yorkshire Woollen District Transport, Camel Tours and the Sheffield, Rotheram and Bradford transport departments.

For the applicant, Sir Frank -Marshall said the pick-up points were wanted at Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley and the Woodall service area on the M1 and were intended for Yorkshire people going on Continental and British holidays.

At present Wallace Arnold passengers from Scarborough and Hull connected with the Leeds operation at Bawtry and one of the applications was to have the Woodall service area used instead of Bawtry.

Another application involved the provision of feeder services for the first time from the Dewsbury, Batley and Morley area, which would enable passengers from those towns to connect with any tours provided from Leeds.

Passengers had to reach the existing joining points by one means or another, with the less well-off tending to lose out, said Sir Frank.

'Our application seeks to take advantage of the motorway construction and extend the benefits to sections of the travelling public without regard to their financial status," he said.

The hearing was adjourned.
