Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Sheffield trunk route chosen

• After 2+ years of local study the route for the Sheffield to Manchester trunk route has been settled. On Wednesday of last week DoE Parliamentary Under-Secretary Keith Speed announced that the scheme would be put into the Trunk Road Preparation Pool.

From a number of choices the route selected lies in a corridor from Hyde by-pass in the west, along the south side of the Longdendale Valley to join Ml near Chapeltown, a distance of 25 miles. It will relieve other heavily loaded roads in the Peak District National Park and special attention will be paid to the effect on the environment. Opening is expected to be made in stages between 1977 and 1979.
