Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

and publications

Drivers' aid

BECAUSE the normal fixing for a sack loader is at the rear of a vehicle everything has to be loaded there. But now R. Murat Ltd., of Wisbech, has designed and fitted a semi-trailer with a sack loader and three guide rails, one at the back, and one each side of the platform. This means that the driver simply attaches the sack loader to whatever point he wishes to load. After a trial demonstration it was claimed that loading time was halved—resulting in a saving on fuel and engine wear.

All inquiries to: R. Murfitt Ltd., Trailer Division, Weasenharn Lane, Wisbech, Cambs.

Price: £150 including the loader and three fixing points.

Air compressors

DESIGNED for garage and service station use in capacities of 3.3 cu.ft./ mm to 63 cu.ftimin, a range of Grumac horizontal and vertical air compressors is available in singleand two-stage versions operating at 150 p.s.i. and 200 p.s.i. respectively. Details include a high-efficiency oil-and-water separator which is located between the compressor and receiver and acts as an intercooler.

Made by: Grantham Rubber Machinery Co. Ltd., Grantham, Lincs.

Edge-grain hardwood

SAWN in such a way that its natural grain is aligned at right angles to the load-bearing surface, edge-grain hardwood flooring is produced by the Goderich Manufacturing Co. Ltd., of Ontario, Canada, and is being marketed in this country by Southerns Ltd.

Produced in laminated tongued-andgrooved and shiplap sections, edge-grain hardwood is claimed to have greater strength than conventional flooring, to be easier to instal and to have a longer life.

It is designed to withstand heavy loading by mechanical handling units such as fork-lift trucks, has a smooth surface and cannot be penetrated by splashed road liquid. Waterproof glues are employed. Marketed by: Southerns Ltd., Tanhouse Sawmills, Widnes, Lancs.

Level indicator

KNOWN as the Levelrator, a system has been announced by Thomas Industrial Automation Ltd., which enables the level of the contents of a bulk container to be read on a meter which can be mounted, if necessary, remote from the container. The meter may be calibrated to comply with the customers' requirements, for example, in tons or gallons.

The level of the load is measured by an electrode having 10 relay control points, the change in level being a function of the change in capacitance between the electrode and container wall; the material acts as the dielectric of the capacitor.

Made by: Thomas Industrial Automation Ltd., Altrincham, Cheshire. DEVELOPED by ICI, the fire-fighting agent Bromochlorodifluoromethane (BCF), is used in a Simoniz Hi-speed fire extinguisher which incorporates a new type of valve and spray tip.

The agent is claimed to inhibit the chain reaction of the combustion process, to form a blanket of gas that excludes oxygen from the fire and to have a cooling effect on solid fires.

A blazing can of petrol was smothered within 6 seconds with three sprays from the extinguisher by a member of the staff of COMMERCIAL MOTOR in a demonstration.

The contents are non-toxic, and claimed to be harmless to fabrics, or insulating materials. The spray can be used in temperatures of minus 20 deg C.

Made by: Simoniz Ltd., 125 High Holborn, London WC 1.

Price: £1 7s 6d.
