Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'CORD has won over £100,000 worth of orders from five British haulage companies as a result of an executive sales demonstration run to Italy with a Ford D1000 28-ton tractive unit.

The demonstration run was arranged in conjunction with Pointer Continental Road Services, which supplied a 33ft.-long Baden TIR canvas tilt semi-trailer to couple to the D1000. The trailer was fully laden with £18,000 of machinery for delivery in Milan so that the outfit's performance could be assessed in realistic operating conditions.

Invited on the run were executives of five major transport concerns which between them operate over 7,000 vehicles.

The journey was by the FelixstoweRotterdam Channel crossing, through Germany, Austria and the Swiss mountain passes, into Northern Italy and Milan.

Fuel and performance checks were made throughout the 1,908-mile round trip. The fully laden outfit showed an overall fuel consumption of 7.2 m.p.g. An even better figure would be expected with the vehicle in the hands of a regular, fully experienced driver.

Running time averaged just over 36 m.p.h., the best time being achieved in Germany where the outfit covered a 106-mile leg in 2+ hours at an average speed of 47.1 m.p.h.
