From 1958 to 1960 he served on the Central Transport Consultative Committee. Until May, last, he was convenor of Glasgow Transport Committee. His Unionist opponent will be Mr. Malcolm McNeill, a haulier.

Following the sudden death of Mr. G. W. Graham, Car Mart Sales, Ltd., announce that Mr. R. T. Willbie, wholesale commercial vehicle manager, has been appointed wholesale car division manager and will operate from the Welsh Harp, Edgware Road, branch. Mr. N. Haynes, at present assistant to the deputy .managing director, has been appointed wholesale commercial vehicle division manager and will also be based at the Welsh Harp branch,

Mr. V. A. Lax, LtradfOrci, has been elected chairman of the Co-operative Traffic Managers' Association. Mr. J. H. Hadliekl is the new vice-chairman and Mr. A. Watch has been re-elected secretary.

Mr. W. F. Buchanan has been appointed Dunlop road transport representative in the Aberdeen area, replacing Mr. H. D. O'Neill, who has retired from the company after 38 years' service. Mr. Buchanan joined Dunlop in 1936 and. except during the war years when he served with R.E.M.E., has been based at Glasgow depot. Since 1952 he has been a tyre service equipment representative.

The Avon India Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced the following executive organization changes: Mr. A. F. Walshant, formerly home tyre sales manager, is appointed head office executive, special contracts division. Mr. T. A. Merritt assumes responsibility for the replacement tyre division. Mr. P. J. Mahoney, formerly area sales manager (Midland region), is appointed sales executive, replacement tyre division. Major J. G. Moulton is appointed general administration manager responsible for group sales personnel department and the sales development and records department, which will now be merged. Mr. R. Aldam, formerly manager, central African branch, is appointed executive assistant to Major Moulton. Mr. D. G. Gibson, formerly district manager (Manchester region), is appointed area sales manager (Midland region). Mr. W. C. Hooke, formerly general line representative, is appointed district manager (Manchester).

Mr. Don Haycox, a DawIey, Salop, haulage contractor, has been elected a director of Wellington Town F.C.

The George Cohen 600 Group, Ltd., have appointed Mr. Peter Bonner to the board of their associate company, T. C. Jones and Co., Ltd.

Mr. G. F. Laurence, director of technical services at Metalastik, Ltd., has been appointed a deputy managing director of the company.

Mr. A. C. Barlow, general manager of West Hartlepool Corporation transport department, has been appointed to a similar post at St. Helen's, Lanes, in succession to Mr. J. C. Wake, who is now general manager at Bradford. Mr. Barlow, 45, joined West Hartlepool in 1957. Before then he was chief traffic officer at Hull.

Mr. J. Woofer, London Transport assistant divisional superintendent (South Division), country buses and coaches, has been appointed divisional superintendent (North Division), country buses and coaches, with the rank of principal executive assistant. He succeeds Mr. W. P. Morgan, who was recently appointed divisional superintendent (East Division), Central Road Services, and will have his headquarters at St. Albans.

Obituary

WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. R. Stuart Pitcher and Mr. T. E. Courtney.

Mr. Robert Stuart Pileher, of Humble, East Lothian, who died last week at the age of 79, was a former general manager of Aberdeen Tramways and of Edinburgh Tramways. In 1929 he went from Edinburgh to Manchester, where he held the post of general manager of the transport department until 1946. He was chairman of the West Midland Traffic Commissioners from 1946 to 1951, and was a former president of the Institute of Transport and of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association. Mr. Pitcher received the C.B.E. in 1943.

Mr. Courtney was chairman of C.I.E. from 1949 to 1958. He was 66 years old.
