At a meeting of the Sheffield Corporation the town clerk reported that during the year ended March 31st last motor licences were issued to the value of i143,920. The total cost of collection was £2,368, which amount includes
salaries of staff, office accommodation, Printing, stationery and postages. The Ministry, of Transport has already paid £2,125 on account of the cost of collection, and the balance will be paid after Government audit. The percentage of the total cost to net revenue is 1.64. ,The Ministry of Transport has adopted a "unit" scheme for arriving at the volume of work carried out in the levy and collection of Road Fund licences, and the cost per unit works out at slightly under 4-0.
