• Major Japanese truck manufacturer Nissan Diesel is considering sourcing some of its components from South Africa to benefit from the tariff reductions for imported vehicles containing locally made parts, according to reports in the South African press.
The Japanese company has indicated that it intends to use South Africa as a base to expand truck exports tnto the rest of Africa—it recently spent some £16m acquiring local manufacturing capacity in Port Elizabeth.
