Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A new pallet pool service is designed to give distributors an alternative to the dominant-supplier situation in existence for the past 25 years.

LPII offers to handle the collection of pallets from distribution centres, and the handling, sorting and transport of broken pallets to repair centres using a "one-way trip" concept. LPR calculates that this system, using red pallets. will save customers up to 20% of their current pool costs.

LIN1 deputy manager Olivier Pages says: "We wish to develop an alternative to the blue pool [operated by rivals CHEM in the fast moving consumer goods market. In the UK this sector appears to be eager for a competitor. The asset is the same, it just comes down to service."

A transport depot network has been set up In partnership with Taylor Barnard, which will oversee operational tasks and carry out collections. Supermarkets Tesco. Sainsbury, Asda and Safeway have already agreed to trials.
