By Joanna Bourke LOGISTICS FIRM C Butt has won a multi-million pound, fiveyear contract with supermarket chain Netto to provide all of its distribution services.

Northampton-based C Butt will deliver to 193 stores from Netto's Distribution Centres (DCs) based at South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, and Daventry, Northamptonshire.

The company will be responsible for the development of a primary distribution service, returning products to each DC, as well as optimising the core fleet operations based at both centres.

Under the deal, C Butt has committed to a Dm investment in 63 lorries and 96 refrigerated trailers, and will also provide the supporting IT, C Butt reveals that the contract secures the ongoing employment of about 150 staff who will be transferring from two incumbent third-party providers. Karl Hodgkinson, C Butt group operations director, says: "C Butt has enjoyed steady growth over the years. Securing this contract with Netto Foodstorcs is testament to our dedication to delivering quality logistics services." Charles Kay, Netto managing director, adds: -Over the past few months, we've worked to secure this contract and I'm delighted it has now come to fruition."

NYK Logistics, which has worked with Netto for a number of years, says the transfer of work to C Butt follows a competitive tender process.

"NYK Logistics (UK) employs 96 staff on the operation, based at the South Elmsall Netto DC," says NYK operations and business improvement director Ian Smith. "It's our understanding that they will transfer to Netto's new logistics provider under TUPE rules."
