MEACHERS GROUP has changed its name to Meachers Global Logistics as well as unveiling a new livery in order to secure more business.

The Southampton-based group previously ran operations under the names Meachers Transport & Warehousing, and Oast Agencies Freight Forwarding.

Meachers commercial director Gary Whittle says: "The new brand gives the firm a solid identity and a platform for future development and expansion into new markets."

The change comes in response to an increased demand for a combination of Meachers' services from its customers, with

approximately threequarters already using at least one combination.

Meachers' managing director Bob Terris says warehousing is strong, but transport margins are Low. "The UK road transport sector is struggling," he adds. "For every three HGVs we send out, we are finding just one returning fully loaded, but lorries are still our biggest image on the road. Our yellow and red livery is what people identify us with."

The fleet now stands at 70, but Terris says by doubling up on trunk routes, this is enough to carry out the equivalent work of 100 lorries.
