Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PAA FAIRLY general improvement in the standard of vehicle maintenance is shown by the annual reports of the T.„icensing Authorities for Goods Vehicles for the year ended September 30, 1953.

The reports, issued on Tuesday, state that there is still room for improvement among lighter vehicles, particularly those used on retail deliveries. It is thought that the principal reasons are continuous use, inadequate servicing, poor driving and the high repair costs.

Defects mainly responsible for the issue of prohibition notices are grouped under steering, bodywork, brake, suspension system and transmission—in that order.

Certifying officers and vehicle examiners co-operated with the police in road checks, in which 7,298 vehicles were examined and 2,214 prohibition notices were issued.
