Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

*-rHERE is no doubt that the leaded. 1 fuels which are now being sold are' affecting performance adversely, and one of the ways of maintaining efficiency and retaining reasonable economy lies in giving attention to the sparking plugs and contact breaker. The Ford Motor Co., Ltd., Dagenham, in a recent Service Bulletin, deals with the Ford and Fordson vehicles with regard to some necessary adjustments to the ignition, a feature which has an important bearing on engine running temperature.

It is important that the engine be kept as cool as possible under running conditions, as any local _overheating may give rise to such a trouble as the burning of exhaust valves, In order to help in this direction, it will be found necessary to readjust the ignition by advancing the distributor setting at the index plate. It should be advanced to just under the " pinking " stage on the Ford V8 distributor; it may be

necessary, further, to reset the distributor vacuum brake.

Here are some points to note in connection with sparking plugs. On the 14 h.p. model, with the C5 Champion single point plug, the gap should be set to between .030. in. and .033 in. With contact breakers having a removal 'cam, the points should be set to give a gap of between .018 in. and .022 in.; and with a fixed cam .010 in. to .015 in. • Spring tension, in the latter case, should be between 22 oz. and .27 oz. and in the other case 14 oz. to 20 oz.

On the 22 h.p. machine, with the C Champion single point plug, set the points to between .020 in. and .022 in.. and the contact breaker points .012 in. to .014 in. (cams 1 in. across flats) and .014 in. to .016 in. (fa in, cam flats). Spring tension should be 22-27 oz, and 20-24 oz. respectively.

A C5 . Champion single point plug, in the 24 h.p. model, should be set, to between _030' in. and .033 in. -Removable-cam. type contact breakers should have the gap set to between .01-8 in. and .022 in., and the fixed-. cam type .010 in, to .015 in. Spring tension for this modelshould be as for the 14 h.p. machine.

The 30 h.p. engine should have the V8 Champion plug gap set to .025 in. Large-cam type breaker points need a gap of between .012 in. and .014 in., and the smaller cam breaker .014 in.

to .016 in. Spring tension ''.or the former is the same as in other engines, but the latter should have a tension of between 20.oz. and 24 oz. Attention to the f6regoing should greatly improve efficiency.
