Karrier Motors, Ltd., Luton, is producing a trolleybus chassis of twoaxle design, which is suitable for either a double-deck or single-deck body. •The essential differences in the two types are concerned with wheelbase and overalllength .dimensions, and in the tyre equipment.

An 85 11.p. enclosed, compound-type traction motor is employed, the unit being mounted low in the frame, in a rearward position. The drive is taken to an underslung worm-driven rear axle, the axle pot being off-set. This combination permits a low floor and low maXimum height to the body.

Braking is adequately provided for in the installation of air-pressure brakes, with 17-in. diameter drums. A motor-driven compressor, which maintains pressures between 65 and 801b. per sq. in. is mounted on the off-side frame member. The air-pressure brakes operate on all wheels, hand-operated mechanical brakes taking effect an only the rear wheels.

In addition, there is a system of electric rheostatic braking, controlled by the air-brake pedal, which is available at all speeds down to 3,4 m.p.h: Light pressure on the pedal first brings the. rheostatic braking into operation, and increased pressure right up to the maximum, operates the powerful air brakes.

Mounted at the front end of the traction motot is a 12-volt dynamo, which is responsible for supplying the current for the legal lights and for the accessories.

As a double-decker, with a maximum seating capacity for 56 persons, kite chassis has a wheelbase of 16 ft. 3 ins. and an overall length of 25 ft, 7 ins. Tyre equipment consists of 9.00 by. 20 tyres on the twin rear wheels and 36-in,

by on the front. wheels. The approximate weight of the, chassis is 3 tons 18i cwt.

The maximum loading of. the, singledecker is 34 passengers, and this chassis. has a wheelbase of 17 ft. 6 ins, and an overall length of 27 ft. 1 in. All wheels are fitted with 9 00 by 20 tyres and the approximate weight of the chassis is 3 tons 101 cwt, '

Known as the W-type chassis, we understand that ,single-deckers, with central-entrance bodywork by Brush Coachworks, Ltd, have already been delivered to Darlington Corporation, whilst orders are in hand for the municipalities of Doncaster, Grimsby; Ipswich, Newcastle, Nottingham, Polity-pridd, and the South Lancashire Transport Co., Ltd.
