II A charge of using a dangerous vehicle, brought against Carnforth-basecl Alan Thompson Haulage, was dropped before Penrith magistrates because of a legal technicality. The company had denied using a vehicle with defective brakes, fuel and oil leaks, inoperative windscreen wipers and washers, air leaks and a defective exhaust.
