Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DESPITE UNEMPLOYMENT there is still a shortage of qualified people for senior management posts. This is reported by Motorindustry recruitment specialists Alpin Phillimore and Associates.

Although there are comparatively few vacancies for the top jobs, general experience is that these are usually being chased by unsuitable candidates. This is because of the high requirement that companies are now laying down for successful applicants.

Companies are now looking for a different sort of service manager than in the past, says Phillimore. While the applicant still has to have all the technical and supervisory skills, he must now have the ability to market servicing. The right manager should be able to achieve better returns in the face of smaller margins.

The same flair for marketing is now a requirement for most parts of management appointments.
