DON'T FISH for trochus shell off the coast of West Australia unless you are prepared for a long swim home. The seven man crew of a wooden boat only 8 metres long and with a beam of 2.5 metres had it confiscated for this offence after sailing more than 300 miles from Pepella Roti, off Timor. They were sent packing back to Indonesia without their boat.
United Transport West Australia had the job of hauling it on the last part of its journey to Fremantle Maritime Museum, where the vessel has created great interest partly because of its lack of bolts or metal nails. All the nails are wooden.
