Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH the need for saving electricity increasing in urgency, special interest attaches to a warning system that was installed at the Alperton factory of the Glacier Metal Co., Ltd., shortlY after last winter's fuel crisis. The system has since been improved.

An ammeter was connected to one of three lines and was fitted with contacts which could be set to close at a point which represented a certain kVA. Closing of the ammeter contacts operated a relay which, in turn, actuated a buzzer coupled to the publicaddress system. When the total kVA demand exceeded the permitted maximum, a loud intermittent signal was given, which could be heard in all parts of the factory and the offices.

Since it was first installed, the system has been improved by the addition of a thermal delay switch, which prevents the alarm system from being sounded until the overloading has been maintained for three minutes. Before the delay switch was fitted, the warning was given immediately overloading occurred,' and caused annoyance. PEUGEOT 202 AS A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE

DEVELOPED from the well-known Peugeot 202 light car, which enjoyed an immense and merited popularity on the Continent before the war, a commercial edition is now in production. With a stiffened chassis, the 202 is adaptable to a great variety of work. It has been standardized as' an 800 kilog. tilt-covered lorry, an exceptionally smart delivery van, a two-stretcher ambulance, or a station wagon.

The 202 Peugeot has a 1,133 o.h.v engine, with a 7-to-I compression ratio, and delivers 40 b.h.p. A four-speed synchromesh gearbox is fitted. A feature of the chassis design is the employment of torsion-bar independent suspension for the front wheels.

Fuel economy is a special claim. The original 202 car had a well-substantiated reputation for doing 36 m.p.g., and its commercial counterpart is equally economical.

ROADS ARE TO BLAME

COMMENTING on the final report of the Committee on Road Safety, the British Road Federation says that it is convinced that the design and state of maintenance of the roads are more frequently the major contributory cause of accidents than has generally been accepted in the past A comparatively small expenditure in labour and materials on remedial measures would pay a high dividend in safety.
