There was no decision on the application for a general increase of wages. Discussion of the subject was adjourned to enable the three independent members of the Board to look into the position.

UNLICENSED DRIVERS: WARNING TO EMPLOYERS

AT Glasgow Sheriff Court last week Sheriff Giffies gave a warning of heavier penalties os employers who . allowed young employees who did not hold 'licences and were not covered by insurance, to be taught to drive.

Mr. A. MacPherson, of the Scottish Horse and Motormen's Association, said that many of the coming generation of motor drivers were taught to drive in this manner. One reason was that the boys could not afford to go to motor schools.

A COURSE ON GAS TURBINES

ASECOND industrial gas-turbine course is to start at the National Gas Turbine Establishment's school at Ladywood Works, Lutterworth, Leics, on November 10. . It will last for three weeks.

Intended for engineers of graduate or equivalent standard, the course will include specialist lectures, as well as general practice and theory. The contributory fee of £45 includes instruction and food and accommodation in the N.G.T.E. hostel. KEEP PRICES DOWN

UNLESS suppliers of components to the motor industry give every possible assistance in keeping prices down. MOVE TO CUT WASTE BY FIRE

T°give technical advice that would help to reduce the national wastage caused by fires, the Fire Officers' Committee Fire Protection Association has been set up, with a testing station at Boreham Wood, Elstree, Herts. The Association is in no way connected with the business of insurance, and its advice will be given to all who seek it.
