Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has relaunched its 24-hour truck tyre breakdown service under the new name Tyrelink. This replaces the NIDAs existing scheme; it is administered by AA Business Services, Transport customers can register their own personal conditions, including choice of distributor handling the breakdown and size and brand of tyre to be used.

Drivers seeking assistance access Tyrelink via a freephone number. All call-outs are invoiced direct by the tyre distributor to the haulier—no cash exchanges hands at the roadside.

NTDA director Richard Edy says: "This new service to the road transport industry is undoubtedly the most comprehensive and sophisticated network available anywhere. It provides hauliers with the benefits of 24-hour, 365 days per year cover, with the flexibility to specify their own conditions under which breakdowns should be undertaken."

Steve Gardner of Tyreservices, Cardiff has won the title Truck Tyre Fitter of the Year.

The competition, now in its fourth year, was established by the NTDA to raise awareness of the dangers faced by tyre fitters when they arer attending roadside breakdowns.

Gardner, already the South and West Wales champion, had to beat off a challenge from seven other finalists at MIRA to win the £1,000 first prize. "I'm delighted to have won," he says. "It's a great feeling." The event is sponsored by Goodyear and judged by industry experts who mark contestants for efficiency and technical competence on repairs carried out within the NTDA's safety guidelines.
