Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We hear a lot about the 'information super highway' these days. Electronic chatter, data gathering, stock and personnel management are all but a keystoke away for much of industry, but what of the CV sector?

Simon Crisford's research project into the use of computerised fleet management systems (see page 5) throws up some interesting questions about current workshop and management attitudes.

It seems that only a small proportion of operators make use of this technology—many have not even heard of it.

A definite resistance exists, with most potential users choosing to stick with existing technology. This head-in-thesand attitude is understandable but there comes a point when an unwillingness to advance takes its toll. How can CV operators hope to improve competitiveness and profitability without at least considering the latest developments?

• Workshop is taking a Christmas break: we'll be back next year, kicking off with a Braking Special Issue published with Commercial Motor dated 19-25 January 1995. See you then!
