OBITU ARY

WE regret to record the death of MR. VV JAMES A. DuraNa0F, F.Inst.T.A., M.I.T.A., A.M.Inst.T., an acknowledged authority on transport subjects and joint editor of "Transport Management." He was a council member of the National Conference of Road Transport Associations from 1945-48_ He died in America.

We regret to announce also the death of MR. LEWIS DIXON, founder and managing director of Lewis Dixon and Son, Ltd.

FOLLOWING THE FERRY

THE inauguration in July of a vehicular ferry across the Kyles of Bute has caused a number of bus operators to apply for permission to run tours to Rothesay and Colintraive from Glasgow, Ayrshire, Oban and Dunoon. At Durtoon recently, the Scottish Licensing Authority granted licences to the Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd., Kilmarnock: Dodds Coaches, Ltd., Troon: David Mac Brayne, Ltd., Glasgow; Alexander Baird, Ltd., Do noon, and Messrs. Alexander Graham, Milton.

GERMAN MOTOR SHOW

AA .GERMAN International Motor Show, to include commercial vehicles, is being organized on a large scale, and will take place at Frankfurtana-Main from April 19-29 next year. It is to be opened by the President of the Federal German Republic, Professor Heuss.

At 2 p.m. on the opening day there will be a reception by the German Society of Motor Manufacturers at its new "palace" at Frankfurt-am-Main, and a big evening function will be held on April 23.
