IVECO LOOKS READY to steal the limelight at the SED construction show next week when it takes the wraps off its UK line-up of revamped Trakker heavy-duty tippers.

The range comprises 4x4, 6x4, 6x6 and 8x4 rigids with a 6x4 tractor unit. As before, power comes from the 7.8-litre Cursor 8 turbo-diesel, rated at 310, 330 and 360hp, and the 12.8-litre Cursor 13, rated at 410 and 450hp. Unlike the new Stralis, these Trakkers will be available in Euro-4 as well as Euro-5, courtesy of SCR technology.

Transmission options are nine or 16-cog ZF manual boxes and the 12-speed automated EuroTronic.

Disc brakes feature on all nondriven axles. All models come with the Cursor engine brake; the 410hp Cursor 13 engine also boasts the new Combined Engine Brake. Steel parabolic and multi-leaf suspension are carried over from the outgoing model, as is the light-duty air suspension used on 6x4 and 8x4 models. A new air suspension system for heavier-duty applications works in combination with lveco's hub-reduction bogie.

The grille and badging have been updated to denote the new range; inside the cab, darker blue cloth trim and plastics are said to bring enhanced wear resistance.

As with the latest Stralis, cab storage has been improved and the right-hand-drive Active Time (AT) cab gets a new offside external locker.

The engine brake, radio, cruise control and retarder, where fitted, can now be operated from the steering column and the auto transmission selector has also moved to the steering column, improving cross-cab access.

For bodybuilders, Iveco offers a range of power take-offs direct from the factory, and for those that want to go it alone the Trakker's PTO management facility provides all the necessary controls and electrical relays mounted inside the cab. The electrical system has been modified to improve flexibility for bodybuilders.

SED runs from 22 to 24 May at Rockingham, near Corby. See www.sed.co.ult for more details.
