I Palletline plans to expand its etwork to at least 50 member ompanies by the end of this ear to cope with demand for .s next-day delivery service.
Managing director Steve iayward says there is still a iuge market waiting to be tapped by the 43 members who have a combined transport fleet of 3,500 vehicles. "A lot of small and medium size businesses are now becoming aware that they could expand therr customer base overnight by utilising our resources," he adds. The Birmingham-based company was established 10 years ago; the business has grown by an average of 45% a year over the past five years. Next month it expects to record a million pallet movements in the previous year for the first time. Since 2000 it has opened two regional hubs, in Reading and Preston.
Spokesman Gerry Winburn says that prospective new members will have to undergo an exhaustive examination about their facilities and track record.
Earlier this year the vetting procedures at rival palletised distribution company Pall-Ex (UK) were found to be seriously flawed (CM 2228 Feb).
