A DEAL between the Transport and General Workers Union and the Inland Revenue should give 15,000 Scottish drivers a tax windfall of about £130 each. Negotiations between the tax authority and the TGWU have been going on for a considerable period over the drivers' claim for tax relief on their daily meal allowance. The first part of the deal means the tax relief will be
backdated for two years.
Scotland is thought to be the first region to achieve this collective tax agreement. Negotiations are to continue with the Inland Revenue over the form of claiming future tax relief on drivers' midday meal allowances.
