Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A SHFORD by-pass, on the LondonPA Dover Trunk Road (A20), will be officially opened on July 19 by the Minister of Transport. Its completion will be in time to carry the peak of the summer holiday traffic. The narrow, winding streets of Ashford town have been a bottleneck on the Dover road for many years.

Skirting the north side of Ashford, the by-pass is 2-1miles long and has twin carriageways, each 24 ft. wide, separated by a central strip of varyint,,

width. There is a new roundabout at each end. A fly-over bridge carries the main Ashford-Canterbury road (A28) over the by-pass. Other bridges carry the by-pass over Willesborough Lees Road, the River Stour, the Ashford Canterbury railway line and Warren Lane.

Ashford by-pass is a pre-war scheme on which work was begun in 1919.
