A T last Friday's meeting of the 4-1. National Council for the Omnibus Industry (The Commercial Motor, May 10) the trade union's claim for substantial wage •increases, together with improved conditions, was referred to a special committee, which, it is understood, is to meet on Monday next. The claim affects 100,000 company bus workers.

The National Joint Industrial Council was to meet yesterday to consider the trade union's application for substantial wage increases for municipal bus workers (The Commercial Motor, May 3). This new claim follows the one for provincial bus company workers which is still under negotiation.

HIGHER PAY FOR , BODYBUILDERS

THE Industrial Disputes Tribunal have awarded wages increases to workers in the bodybuilding industry, but less than half what the trade unions sought in their application which the employers rejected.

The Tribunal's award provides for the following increases in hourly wage rates: Skilled men, 21d.; semi-skilled, 24cl.; unskilled, 2d.; women, 2d.; with proportionate increases for juveniles. The increases operate from the first full pay period following May 8.

The unions asked for increases ranging from d. per hour for skilled men to 54d. for unskilled men and for women. The last previous wage increases, also awarded by the Tribunal, were in February last year.

DIRECT DUSSELDORF BIRMINGHAM DELIVERY THIS week a 22-ton Wuppa cutting 1 and pleating machine was delivered to the Birmingham B.X. Co., Ltd., Birmingham, direct from Dusseldorf, Western Oermany, by road. Dallas (Kingston), Ltd., 205-217 Kingston Road, New Malden, dispatched to Germany an A.E.C. Mandator with Eagle 25-ton low-loading semi-trailer for the load on Monday of last week, the outfit crossing the North Sea by means of the Tilbury-Antwerp ferry.

Dusseldorf is 350 miles from Antwerp. The driver, who was accompanied by a mate, had some previous experienc.q. of Continental delivery work.

6d. ADDED TO FUEL PRICES DETROL and oil-fuel prices have gone up 6d. a gallon in Eire because of a Budget increase in duty. The finance Minister, Dr. Ryan, has, however, exempted from the rise oilfuel used by Coras' Tompair Eireann and the Great Northern Railway for their road passenger services.

Mr. L. F. Lynch, general secretary of the Licensed Road Transport Association, has described the new increase in prices as "a staggering blow to licensed carriers."
