POOLE DISPUTE SETTLEMENT

AN amicable agreement of the protracted dispute on transport between Bournemouth and Poole Cor

porations is in sight. Bournemouth Corporation was promoting a Bill in Parliament seeking perer to operate trolleybuses in Poole, when the existing tramways lease expired on June 7 next. • This measure was being opposed by Poole Corporation, which was supporting a Bill being promoted by Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., to obtain power to operate motorbuses from Bournemouth to Poole.

An agreement has, however, now beea drawn up between Bournemouth Corporation and Hants and Dorset Motor Services, Ltd., under which it is proposed that the company should operate motorbuses into Poole. In consideration, the corporation will abandon its Bill and withdraw its opposition to the company's Bill.

The Hants and Dorset concern will pay Bournemouth Corporation £1,000 a year in addition to the profits derived from passengers picked up and set down within the municipal transport area. The company is to be allowed to charge fares equal to those in force on the municipal services. The agreement will be for 20 years. Certain details have yet to be settled.

N171 FARES BASIS FOR STOKE.

AS the result of a conference between Stcke-on-Trent Watch Committee and representatives of the local bus operators, it is understood that the latter have accepted the principle of calculating fares at Id. per mile.

The committee pointed out that, in 25 other centres, the basis of approximately Id. per mile was adopted, whereas, over 10 specified routes in Stoke-on-Trent, fares were Id. for .6 mile, 2d. for 1.5 mile, 20. for 1,9 mile, and 30. for 2.9 miles.
