Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SPECIALLY BUILT rigid vehicles, about 14m long, are used in one of several similar refuse disposal schemes now being introduced by German local authorities.

The vehicles, built by MAN and type-coded 33.281, are 8x4 chassis designed to carry special compaction containers between a rail transfer station and the tipping site.

Each of the vehicles is fitted with hydraulically powered equipment to operate the pusher-discharge plate of the container. For improved manoeuvrability the rear bogie is fitted with single tyres.

Containers to the same design, with a capacity of 20 tonnes, are also used by the town of Erlangen, near Nuremberg, to receive compacted refuse before being sent by train over a 40km (25 miles) journey to a new highcapacity incineration plant at Bamberg.

Movement of the containers from the railhead is effected by MAN attics with skeletal semitrailers equipped for crane loading. 60,000 tonnes are handled annually, using rail wagons also built by MAN.
